Turkish Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoğlu has hired one of the largest Brussels consultancies to lobby for him, so that his name becomes more familiar to the Brussels bubble.
The reason, we understand, is that when mentioning Turkey, all media focus on Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. Turkey’s President outshines Davutoğlu in the same way that Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev is eclipsed by the almighty Putin.
The lobbying effort can be interpreted as good news. It looks like Turkey wants to use the opportunities of the migrant crisis for a rapprochement with the EU. And in this process, it’s Davutoğlu who should be in the lead.
Although his foreign policy outlook has been described as Neo-Ottoman, Davutoğlu is seen as a promoter of Turkey’s accession bid to the EU.
It will be interesting to follow who at the coming EU-Turkey summit will be in the spotlight. There is a strong hypothesis that we shall see more of Davutoğlu.Heard in Europe
